The birth of Nelson Mandela University
Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University formally became the Nelson Mandela University and launched its new, modern brand. The name change brings with it many opportunities and responsibilities to live up to the iconic name. As a University, we are privileged to be the only university in the world to have this name.
University Shop Launch
As our University’s new name (Nelson Mandela University) came into being, our University Shop launched the newly revamped and rebranded building as well as introduced the new rebranded clothing and corporate items.
The Alumni Association AGM
Annually the Alumni Association reports on its activities and discuss issues of interest with its members. In 2017 the meeting was held in a new format and venue. The new name and brand formed part of the discussions.
National Relationship building Events
A series of national alumni engagement events were held in Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg, Cape Town, East London and George. The events focus on updating alumni on institutional affairs and network with fellow alumni. Some academic departments also participate in these events.
Events at the seat of business
A number of events were held in Port Elizabeth to engage with our alumni. The Alumni Relations Office partnered up with different businesses and institutional departments to cater for social, developmental and celebratory occasions. Partnerships include Mastertons Tea and Coffee Specialists, Leadercast and also FIFA/CIES among others.
Prestigious Alumni Awards
The Annual Alumni Awards event took place in Port Elizabeth in November and celebrated the achievements of our alumni spread across the globe.
Graduation
Every year we welcome over 5000 graduates into the Alumni family. These graduates are our future ambassadors and fly the Nelson Mandela flag high wherever they find themselves in the world. The Alumni Relations Office keeps in touch with our graduates and share their stories across platforms to encourage future graduates to excel in their careers.
