Mandela Uni student sworn in as Member of Parliament
Mandela University Alumnus, Baxolile Babongile Nodada, was recently sworn in as one of the Demoratic Alliance's youngest Members of Parliament in South Africa.
The former SRC member served for three conservative years in 2013,14 & 15, ending his term with the VC's award of SRC Member of the Year in 2015.
In 2016, he was elected as the youngest PR Councillor in Nelson Mandela Bay. He is the Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance's Student Organisation (DASO) in the Eastern Cape and in 2018, graduated from the top 20 Young Leaders Programme where he pioneered his foundation ‘The Brothers Circle’.
Baxolile holds a BA in Politics; Economics and Public Administration, an honours degree in Political Science and is currently completing his master’s in Development Economics with Nelson Mandela University. Read Full article here:

Alumnus and former staff member launches first book (Published: The Herald May 2019)
Olwam Mnqwazi, BA and BA Honours (Development Studies) graduare officially launched his first book titled "Writing the Way: Lessons & Conversations I wish to have with you" recently.
He is currently the Managing Director of the Black Hat Group. Mnqwazi's book focuses on the human internal complexities in relation to social dynamics.
Momentous occasion for former staff member
Congratulations to Reverend Fr Runaine James Radine, former Alumni Relations staff member was officially ordained in the Catholic Priesthood on the 17 May 2019.
Mandela's grandson delivers international guest lecture (Published May 2019)
Siyabulela Mandela, the late Nelson Mandela’s grandson is a PhD candidate in International Relations and Conflict Studies, currently a visiting scholar at the School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University, Virginia in the United States.
He recently delivered a guest lecture entitled: By means of Peace or By means of War: In search of an Inclusive Conflict Resolution Approach the War College of the Republic of Ecuador, South America, where he recently.
Qualifications include Bachelor of Arts (Political Science, History and International Relations) and Masters of Philosophy in Conflict Transformation and Management.
Parliament appoints new MP (Published May 2019)
Baxolile Babongile Nodada, is one of the newly appointed members of parliament who completed his BA (Political Sciences, Conflict Management, Economics and Public Admin) and BA Honors (Political Sciences) degree at Nelson Mandela University.
National Architectural Award for Alumnus (Published May 2019)
Riaan Huiskens, Master's in Architecture student, has been named Corobrik National Architectural Student of the Year.
The competition involves the top March students from each of the Architectural Learning Sites in South Africa who present their treatise design work, in competition, at a national event in Johannesburg. The competition has been run annually for over 30 years and is the premier competition event in the architectural academic calendar.
This is an outstanding achievement for Riaan and the Department.
