Computer Science alumnus  VP at Amazon

David Brown, BCom honours graduate, has been promoted to Vice President, Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) at Amazon. 

He is currently leading the various EC2 Compute, Networking and Load Balancing teams, building and maintaining cloud-based services used by several of the Internet's largest global domains, including many that are accessed by millions on a daily basis.

Amazon is an international online shopping store selling anything from the earth's biggest selection of books, magazines, music, DVDs, videos, electronics, computers, software, apparel & accessories among many others. The company was founded by Jeff Bezos in 1995 and recorded fourth quarter turnover of $60.5b on 1 February 2018.

 

 

 

 

 


Former Dean in running for UCT top post

LLM graduate and former Dean of Law for Nelson Mandela University, Prof Vivienne Lawack, is one of only two women still in the running for the post of vice-chancellor at the University of Cape Town (UCT). She served as the President of the South African Law Deans’ Association from 2010 until 2015

Prof Lawack is currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor: Academic  at the University of the Western Cape (UWC). She has also been appointed as a Professor of Law in the Department of Mercantile and Labour Law in the Faculty of Law at UWC.

 

 

 

 

 


Achiever continues to grow business

Nelson Mandela University alumnus and 2014 Alumni Achiever Award recipient, Deon Schoeman continues to build his Klinicare pharmacy chain.

Deon Schoeman grew up in Cotswold, Port Elizabeth, and is a MPharm graduate.  He is a first generation pharmacist now employing 250 persons in his 15 branches and wholesale centres in   Nelson Mandela Bay.

In 1984, Schoeman opened his first Klinicare pharmacy after completing his national service as a pharmacist. He was inspired by a retired pharmacy retailer from United Kingdom who was on holiday at the St Francis Hotel where he was a wine steward during school holidays.  

Today Klinicare pharmacies are well known for its customer services and the good treatment it offers to patients.
