Mandela University doctoral student takes first prize with cancer research

 
PhD student in Physiology Itumeleng Zosela won first place in the in the Audio Category of the Young Science Communicator's Competition 2022 edition, with her study focusing on using plant materials for colon cancer treatment.
 
The Young Science Communicator’s Competition challenges young scientists to tell their science story in a captivating, informative and interesting way.
 
The competition focused on natural sciences, under the theme of the “International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development,” and is an initiative of the National Research Foundation (NRF) and the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP).

Two top national awards for Quantity Surveying students

 

Mandela University students Storm Abbott and Dylan Minnaar received two top national awards at the recent Association of South African Quantity Surveyors (ASAQS) Awards Gala evening
 
Storm Abbott and Dylan Minnaar both received two top national awards at the recent ASAQS Awards Gala evening from representatives of Turner & Townsend Quantity Surveyors.
 
Storm, currently a final year BSc Honours (Quantity Surveying) student, received the ASAQS Turner & Townsend Future Leaders Award”, for her outstanding academic excellence in her undergraduate studies.
 
 

 

Luke Rudman wins Golden Key Outstanding Member Award Scholarship 

 
Mandela University Visual Arts honours student Luke Rudman is one of 14 South African students and 38 globally to have won a Golden Key Outstanding Member Award Scholarship.
 
 
Golden Key International Honours Society’s regional director in South Africa Gillian Cloete said: “This award is to celebrate our outstanding members, who demonstrate exceptional achievement in all three Golden Key pillars, namely academic performance, leadership, and community service.
 
"It is highly competitive, and we are very proud to have so many Southern Africa Members receive these scholarships”.

Mandela University's Milisa Piko re-elected as President of careers exhibition body

 
Mandela University Communication and Marketing Manager, Milisa Piko, has been unanimously re-elected to be the National President of the Careers Exhibition & Information Association (CEIA) for a second term 2024 to 2025.
 
Milisa, who is located on the University's George Campus, became the first female president of this 24-year-old association, when she was elected at its national AGM in 2021. Her term started in 2022 to 2023.  She serves this organisation on behalf the University’s student recruitment services.
