Nelson Mandela University takes pride in the achievements of our alumni - individuals who are making meaningful contributions across industries and communities, both locally and globally.
In this feature, we shine a light on some of our outstanding alumni who are reaching new heights, driving change, and inspiring others through their professional journeys.

NIKHIL TRICAM
Some people sketch ideas. Nikhil Tricam builds them. For this award-winning architect, design is more than structures - it’s a deeply personal journey of storytelling, craftsmanship, and pushing creative boundaries. From childhood curiosity to founding Studio Kalki and Kalki Ceramics, Tricam’s work merges art, architecture, and innovation in ways that redefine what buildings can be.

Tricam’s journey began at Nelson Mandela University, where he completed his Master’s in Architecture in 2010. His academic path - spanning Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, and Pretoria - laid a rich foundation for his multidisciplinary approach to design. It was at Mandela University that he developed a problem-solving mindset, influenced by mentors who encouraged both technical precision and creative freedom.
