A Naming and Renaming project to ensure that all our University spaces and places recognise, respect and honour all people and our country’s rich heritage in ways that resonate with our values and the ethos of our namesake, has begun.
Tafadzwa Chijabvu, a BCom Hons Accounting (2015) graduate, has accepted a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity to join the KPMG UK team in the Reading Office in April 2019. He intends spending five years in the UK to gain experience as a chartered accountant. His life journey thus far is extraordinary.
The Alumni Association launched the Alumni Annual Fund at the end of 2018 to grow alumni support for institutional projects and programmes. The Alumni Fund is an innovative approach to giving to encourage as many alumni as possible to give a small amount, of R50 a month or more if they can afford it. It is all about building the culture of giving over a lifetime with a regular gift. The Association’s first event for 2019 was a jazz social fundraiser with entertainment provided by Adlib. About one hundred guests were present and the evening raised more than R5000 with pledges for regular giving.

AIDC CEO Appointment
The Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC) in Gauteng has appointed Mr Lance Schultz as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He joins the AIDC after a near four-year tenure as CEO of the Centurion Aerospace Village. Mr Schultz, being no stranger to the industry, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the AIDC. His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Technology Degree in Operations Management from Nelson Mandela University.

Taking on the name Nelson Mandela means “shouldering a great responsibility”, Cyril Ramaphosa said two years ago when Nelson Mandela University dropped “Metropolitan” from its name, no longer representing the Eastern Cape city where it is located, but rather the statesman.
