VC delegation engaging US based alumni and stakeholders

During Vice-Chancellor Professor Sibongile Muthwa’s trip to the US, we had the pleasure of hosting several events in Washington, D.C. (18th October) and New York City (21st October) for our US-based alumni, a group that includes both holders of multiple degrees and participants in short-stay study abroad programs at our University and its legacy institutions.

We were gratified to learn about the incredible impact they are having in their various fields by, among other things, performing cutting-edge cancer research, developing environmentally conscious delivery solutions, practicing sustainable architecture, managing Diversity and Inclusion initiatives at the United Nations, and teaching in higher education. They embody the University’s priorities and aspirations as an institution committed to advancing education for a sustainable and socially just world.

On 26 October, the University partnered with The South African Consulate General on a reception - “An Evening Featuring Nelson Mandela University” - in The South African Cultural Center in The South African Consulate General in New York.  We were grateful to host our US-based alumni, and existing and new friends from government, academia, philanthropy, and the private sector to hear from Professor Sibongile Muthwa, our Vice-Chancellor and Principal, about the global ecosystem we are building to advance education for a sustainable and socially-just world.  We are thankful to members of the delegation who helped to warmly welcome our guests in the spirit of Ubuntu.  Thank you to Dr Motumisi Tawana, South African Consul General in New York, and his colleagues for graciously hosting us, and to our partner, The International Social Impact Institute, for organizing this “friendraising” event.
