Change the world

03/04/2023

Three former Nelson Mandela University – Student Alumni Society (SAS) chairpersons recently met up again at our Alumni Awards ceremony, where one of them, Curwyn Mapaling, received a Rising Star award.

SAS is a developmental society of future graduates which is linked to our Alumni Association. In 2014 they joined forces to promote the Alumni Bursary Fund. SAS sold re-usable shopping bags as part of the fundraising campaign and also used the bags as gifts for the donors.

Nine years later, Thomas Terblanche completed three degrees in Humanities, Curwyn Mapaling studied Psychology and will be graduating with a PhD in April 2023 and Dr Welcome Kupangwa graduated with his PhD in 2021 after completing three other degrees in Economic Sciences. Curwyn shared in his award acceptance message the value of having been actively involved in student societies. We are proud of their achievements to date as role models and young leaders.

Post Covid-19 and the impact on society activities, the SAS, is actively recruiting members again and engaging alumni to share their expertise with students on a variety of topics. Award recipients Curwyn Mapaling and Anele Siswana, both psychologists, spent some time with SAS members following the day after the Alumni Award ceremony.

We are proud of the achievements of many of our former SAS members who are spread over globe.
