Mandela University graduation in full swing

The Nelson Mandela University’s autumn graduation 2022 season kicked off in George held at Eden Place, in the Garden Route town on 07 – 08 April with three sessions over the two-day period. During these ceremonies 396 students were awarded their under- and postgraduate qualifications. Of these, five were master’s degrees and six were doctoral.

The Gqeberha leg is now in full swing over the 20 April to 05 May period with 23 sessions. More than 7000 graduates, including 52 doctorates, will be conferred at the Madibaz Indoor Centre, South Campus.  Three honorary doctorates will also be conferred.

Addressing the congregation in George that included institutional officer bearers, graduates and their families, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sibongile Muthwa, congratulated all graduates for their success despite the challenges encountered and further exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic.

“Today is a truly significant day. I hope that all of you who are graduating will remember it for the rest of your lives,” said Prof Muthwa.

In her address to the congregation at the Madibaz Indoor Centre on the institution’s South Campus on 20 April, Chancellor Dr Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi congratulated the Business and Economic Sciences faculty graduates, who are among the 7 070 students graduating this season, on the fruits of their hard work.

“Hard work, no short cuts and dreams are also what epitomise and mark our celebrations today at graduation,” she said.

“Each of you have put in the hard work, which is the hallmark of every degree, diploma and certificate being awarded. It is the key ingredient of success. And your graduation symbolises the realisation of dreams, of completing your studies, and also of new future paths each of you will embark upon.

Dr Fraser-Moleketi said the University’s newly adopted Vision 2030 was the blueprint for the institution’s strategic intentions for the next decade.
