Lithemba Xotyeni

Lithemba Xotyeni: Alumni Association Executive Committee elected member.

As a student he successfully balanced his studies with leadership roles, sport involvement and rendering academic support to other students. He served as a member of the SRC, SRC PRO in Student Governance and Development as well as Secretary General of SA Public Administration Student Association (SAPASA an academic society at Mandela University). He is a social activist focusing on community development through sporting activities, community projects and educational awareness especially in rural areas. Lithemba’s qualifications include a BAdmin’14, BA Hons (Public Admin)’15, a PG Dip (Maritime Studies)’20 and is currently busy with a master’s degree in Public Administration. He is an Administrative assistant at the Transport Department at Nelson Mandela University. His passion for the University comes from its mission and values.

According to Lithemba, Executive Committee members have the responsibility to oversee the implementation of the Associations’ programmes and ensure good governance practices as elected representatives. He enjoys being involved in strategic planning and decision-making which aligns processes and practices with the vision, mission, and values of the Association and University.

Lithemba shares, “I would like to make a clarion call on all Alumni who are in ranks to offer internships, bursaries and employment opportunities to Mandela graduates. A call is made to all Mandela graduates to contribute to debt relief funding to enable graduates to receive their certificates and be able to apply for employment. Alumni must be an extension of the Alumni Association in various parts of the world and country and should be involved in community outreach programmes targeting especially rural areas and schools where career guidance and computer literacy programmes are desperately needed.”
